Arvi Tyni

Arvi Tyni, a nature photographer originally from Kuusamo and now living in Lappeenranta, has always had a deep interest in nature. As a young boy, he was already observing forest life – everything from ants. Photography also caught his attention early on, inspired in part by Finnish nature photography legend Hannu Hautala. In his teenage years, photographing birds became a particular passion. Now in his forties, Arvi has been actively photographing nature for about two decades – traditionally using a DSLR, but in recent years, especially with trail cameras.
“My trail camera photography started because I wanted to see what visits my hides,” Arvi explains.
He has set up hides for photographing hawks and cranes, among others. In the beginning, he used basic trail camera models purely for documentation. But over time, image quality started to matter more.
“I got excited by a video where a golden eagle and magpies were having a little dispute,” Arvi recalls. “The quality wasn’t quite on par with a DSLR, but the animals were much closer to the camera, and the moment somehow felt more authentic than when shot through a long lens.”
Arvi became increasingly interested in producing different types of video footage with trail cameras. The latest models can shoot 4K or full HD video, and especially in daylight, the quality is excellent. His rare and unique footage of lynx, cranes, bears, and moose has also been used in third-party video productions.
“The only limit to what kind of footage a trail camera can capture is your imagination.”
We are proud to share Arvi’s tips for trail camera photographing and to publish his unique collections on this site.
